Saxenda is an injectable prescription medicine used for adults with obesity (BMI ≥30), for adults whith excess weight (BMI ≥27) who also have weight-related medical problems, and for teenagers aged 12-17 years with a body weight above 132 pounds (60 kg).

Saxenda helps losing weight and keep weight off. It should be used with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.

How to use Saxenda?

Saxenda is a self-injectable medicine that comes in a prefilled pen. It should be taken once daily at any time that is convenient, with or without food. It should be injected under the skin in the stomach area (abdomen), upper leg (thigh), or upper arm. It can’t be injected into a vein or muscle.

Saxenda may cause serious side effects, including: inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis), gallbladder problems, increased risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) in adults with type 2 diabetes who also take medicines to treat type 2 diabetes such as sulfonylureas or insulin, risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) in children who are 12 years of age and older without type 2 diabetes, increased heart rate, kidney problems (kidney failure), serious allergic reactions, depression or thoughts of suicide.

All the patients should talk to their care provider in case they feel any side effect.
