Wegovy is a weight loss medication that cointains the active substance semaglutide.

It is used in people who have obesity (BMI of 30 or more), and people who are overweight (BMI 27-30) and have weight-related health problems such as diabetes, abnormally high levels of fat in the blood, high blood pressure or obstructive sleep apnoea.

It is also used in adolescents from 12 years of age whose BMI is at or above the 95th percentile for their age and gender (obesity) and who weigh more than 60 kg.

How to use Wegovy?

Wegovy is the first and only prescription weight-management medicine taken once weekly. It’s taken on the same day each week, any time of day, with or without food. It is available in 5 different dose strengths, ranging from 0.25 mg to 2.4 mg. Each dose comes in a different color pen.

What is Wegovy’s dosage?

For your second month, you can increase your weekly dose to 0.5 mg. For your third month, you can increase your weekly dose to 1.0 mg. For your fourth month, you can increase your weekly dose to 1.7 mg. For the fifth month onward, our GP doctor may have you stay at 1.7 mg or increase to 2.4 mg

Wegovy® may cause serious side effects, including: inflammation of your pancreas (pancreatitis), gallbladder problems, increased risk of low blood sugar or hypoglycemia (especially those who also take medicines for diabetes such as insulin or sulfonylureas), kidney problems (kidney failure), serious allergic reactions, change in vision in people with type 2 diabetes, increased heart rate, depression or thoughts of suicide. Wegovy also may cause possible thyroid tumors, including cancer.

All the patients should talk to their care provider in case they feel any side effect.
